Arlington High School has named Blaine Brewer as the interim head coach for the AHS Boys Basketball team. Brewer, who also teaches World History at AHS, most recently served as head coach for the boy’s junior varsity team and assistant varsity coach. He also oversaw the boy’s freshman team in the 2019-2020 season.

“Coach Brewer is an up-and-coming coach who is very good with the fundamentals,” said Principal Chris Duncan. “He has a strong work ethic and knows how to build a good working relationship with players. I have all the respect in the world for him and am looking forward to a great season under his leadership.”

In addition to his experience in Arlington, he also held several coaching positions in Hamilton County Schools prior to joining the Tigers. For Brewer, being named interim head coach of the Arlington High team has come full circle. He graduated from AHS in 2009, the school’s second graduating class in history. He also played on the team he’ll soon lead as interim head coach from 2005-2009.

“I was at Arlington the first year the gym opened,” he said. “My love for the school goes way back, so I’m looking forward to getting with the team to get things rolling. Most of these guys I either coached as freshmen or when they were on the JV team, so I have a relationship built with them already. We are replacing some players who graduated or left Arlington, so we’ll have some new guys getting varsity playing time that they haven’t had before.”

The AHS Boys Basketball season kicks off in November.
