Tatum applied and was accepted to attend Virginia Tech’s C-Tech2. C-Tech2 is a two week girls only engineering program where girls attend seminars and activities designed to increase their knowledge and application of engineering. The girls also completed an engineering design project sponsored and judged by GE. Over 150 girls applied and 60 were accepted into the program. Girls were split into 20 teams of three. The project was to design a solution to food deserts. Tatum’s team designed a hydroponic system called NutriAnt that won 3rd place in the project!

Thanks the many teachers at AHS that have she encouraged and challenged Tatum. I want to specifically thank Ms. Perrigin who Tatum, as part of the research required for the project, contacted during the summer. Even though she was on summer break, Ms. Perrigin replied to Tatum’s email and was able to offer, according to Tatum, really great feedback!
