The International Thespian Society is designed for high school students who are in grades 9-12. Founded in 1929, this honorary organization was created for recognizing the outstanding abilities and achievements of theatre student artists and technicians. The Thespian Society was inspired by Thespis, who was the first actor in Greek drama to speak alone on stage. His role in the development of performance set a foundation for the Thespian Society. Students earn the right to be inducted by accumulating points and hours for their work in the performing arts on stage and backstage. The Thespian Society strives to support the students who attain character, service, academic achievement, and artistic ability to bring art education to the school and to the community.

Members are able to participate in performances provided by AHS and the community, service projects, field trips, guest artist opportunities, and other experiences to enhance the education of art in Arlington High School and in the community.
